About Simon Mckee Tutoring

Simon's Story

Simon has over 25 years experience in Primary School Education. The majority of that time has been spent teaching in Years 5 and 6, preparing pupils for Key Stage 2 assessment tests and smooth transitions to secondary school. Simon’s teaching philosophy is a child centred approach to learning with the overall aim of enabling children reaching their full potential.

For the past eight years, Simon has been a dedicated full time tutor helping children to prepare for 11+ tests and Upton and St Anselms entrance exams. He also provides help and support in English and Mathematics for those children not wishing to apply for Grammar school education. Simon also continues to teach Booster class sessions in reading and writing two afternoons a week in a local primary school and is a Key Stage 2 marker for the Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling tests.

Simon is a hard working and well prepared tutor and teacher. He fosters a friendly, calm and reassuring manner when working with children with an emphasis on encouragement and praise. Lessons are tailored to individual to pupil’s needs. Simon gives continual and honest feedback to pupils and parents alike at the end of each session and clear assessment is given on each pupil’ potential to achieve the required standard in the entrance and 11 plus exams.

Simon offers flexible tutoring sessions. They will normally take place at each child’s home although pupils can also visit Simon’s home for sessions if this is more appropriate for parents. Simon will endeavour to rearrange any sessions if the normal weekly slot cannot be held.

For anyone with covid concerns Skype or Zoom lessons can be arranged. Lesson resources can be emailed two days before the session for parents to print out.

For home visits, Simon will happily take appropriate safety measures, i.e. wearing a face mask and regular hand sanitising.

With a DBS enhanced check, Simon is a highly professional tutor. He is friendly and approachable to children and parents alike and always has the best interest of the children at heart, forming positive relationships with each child in his care.

Parental Feedback

Simon was a fantastic tutor for our son Finn and is currently tutoring our daughter Lara. I’d highly recommend him for Grammar School tutoring or any other tutoring. He has a very calm and encouraging manner and definitely got the best out of Finn.
