A Quick Guide To 11 Plus Tuition
The following provides you with information on the tuition pathway leading to the 11 plus exam.
1. Aiming for the Exam
The 11+ Entrance Exams consist of two papers approximately each 50 minutes in length comprising sections on Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics and Non Verbal Reasoning.
2. At the start
In the first few months, I introduce the pupils to the different question types discussing strategies and methods.
3. Encouragement
An important part of the process is to provide gentle encouragement and foster an atmosphere where it is ok to make mistakes.
4. Practice makes perfect
By revisiting question types regularly the aim is to increase pupils familiarity and confidence to carry out the problems independently. Homework is given to reinforce these concepts.
5. Techniques and Timing
We gradually progress to practice tests and discuss exam techniques such as time management.
6. Reassurance to try their best
In all sessions, I aim to develop a collaborative approach giving the children constant encouragement and reassurance. I don't put extra pressure on the children in what to some can already be a worrying process. I constantly emphasise that the most important thing they can do is to try their best.
